Buying electric power on behalf of DISCOs as per the aggregated demand projections and in accordance with the applicable power policies as approved from CCI from time to time.
CPPA aggregates the power generators’ invoiced amounts and calculates a Transfer Charge for Power Distribution companies (DISCOs) in accordance with the framework prescribed in the Commercial Code.
CPPA collects payments from Distribution Companies, and then performs settlement to the Market Participants based on verified invoices and the payment instructions prepared by the Settlement Committee.
Market Operator (MO) is a function within the Central Power Purchasing Agency (Guarantee) Ltd. (CPPA-G), a company incorporated under the Companies Ordinance, 1984 and wholly owned by the Government of Pakistan (the “GOP”). CPPA-G was previously functioning as the Market Operator of the single-buyer market in accordance with Rule-5 of the NEPRA Market Operator (Registration, Standards and Procedure) Rules, 2015 (the “Market Rules”).
CPPA-G has been granted the license of the Market Operator (MO) to regulate its operations, standards of practice and business conduct of market participants and their representatives under National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) ACT 2018. In the role of the Electricity Market Operator of Pakistan, we organize and operate the competitive electricity market, administer trade in electricity and payment settlements among generators, licensees, and consumers. Our work is focused on maintaining discipline in the market; empowering the participants to trade electricity on bilateral terms and enabling them to choose their buyer / seller.
